The New York Times and international bestseller-now updated with the latest research

Anticancer has been a bestselling phenomenon since Viking first published it in fall 2008. Now, a new edition addresses current developments in cancer research and offers more tips on how people living with cancer can fight it and how healthy people can prevent it. The new edition of Anticancer includes:

• The latest research on anticancer foods, including new alternatives to sugar and cautions about some that are now on the market

• New information about how vitamin D strengthens the immune system

• Warnings about common food contaminants that have recently been proven to contribute to cancer progression

• A new chapter on mind-body approaches to stress reduction, with recent studies that show how our reactions to stress can interfere with natural defenses and how friendships can support healing in ways never before understood

• A groundbreaking study showing that lifestyle modification, as originally proposed in Anticancer, reduces mortality for breast cancer by an astounding 68 percent after completion of treatment

• New supporting evidence for the entire Anticancer program

No More Feeling Helpless

I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer 1 1/2 years ago and went through surgery and chemotherapy with few problems. Then what? You wait and see if it comes back. The oncologist said there was nothing I could do to increase the chances of remaining cancer-free. Well, not so! This book does a wonderful job of laying out the evidence base for all the suggestions made. The language is clear and concise. Everything the author suggests is doable. I had a very healthy lifestyle before being diagnosed with cancer but there are still many items in the book I was unaware of and have incorporated into my life. It is all good. And best of all, I don't feel I have no choice but to wait and see if the cancer returns.

How to survive cancer, before and after

I first encountered David Servan-Schreiber through his book The Instinct to Heal, Curing Depression, Anxiety, and Stress without Drugs and without Talk Therapy. I was pleased to find a medical doctor willing to consider alternative medicine in the treatment of mental distress. Now his book Anticancer, A New Way of Life, convinces me that he truly has much to add to our understanding of our bodies and our minds at a time when traditional medicine is beginning to acknowledge that there is something we ourselves can do to bolster our immune systems besides taking more and more medicines. He does not replace traditional medicine, he fortifies it with sound research that anyone can apply to their lives. This book is for those with cancer, those who have survived, and those who don't want to suffer the ravages of this disease in their lives at all. A must read for anyone wanting to make healthy choices in their daily lives.
